Among the U.S. orchestras releasing new recordings this fall are the Kansas City Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the Minnesota Orchestra. Music Director Michael Stern conducts the Kansas City Symphony’s all-Britten recording, on the Reference label; that CD includes The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, Sinfonia da Requiem, and Four Sea Interludes and the Passacaglia from Peter Grimes. On the Exton label, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has a new CD of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”), from its inaugural concerts last season under Music Director Manfred Honeck The Minnesota Orchestra’s Beethoven symphony cycle, a five-year project led by Music Director Osmo Vänskä, is being released as a five-box set on the BIS label. The Minnesota Orchestra also has a new recording, Exotic Dances from the Opera, led by former music director Eiji Oue, that includes “Dance of the Persian Slaves” from Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina; “Dance of the Tumblers” from Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden; and the Bacchanale from Saint-Saëns’s Samson et Dalila.
