In Friday’s (2/26) Capital Gazette (Annapolis, MD), Meredith Newman writes, “Patrick Nugent felt the change on his seventh day as executive director of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra” in September, when he heard the orchestra perform for the first time in the acoustically renovated Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. “The sound enveloped the auditorium, creating an intimate atmosphere. … Those who are a part of the musical institution say it’s a new, exciting time for the symphony… The ASO is looking to broaden its geographic and demographic footprint throughout the state, while also increasing its fundraising efforts. The symphony … is looking to become a ‘state symphony’ and play at venues all over Maryland [and] increase its total number of performances, [Music Director José-Luis] Novo said…. The ASO is hoping to work closer with Anne Arundel County Public Schools…. The ASO is part of the fabric that makes Annapolis a special place to live, said Karen Smith, the chair of ASO’ board of trustees. With Nugent as director, the ASO is in a position where it can execute its mission of getting out and connecting with new audiences, she said.”
