The New Haven Symphony Orchestra has announced the launch of a two-year-long Connecticut Young Composers’ Project with Music Alive Composer-in-Residence Augusta Read Thomas. Ten high-school-age composers will be selected by the orchestra, which is accepting applications until September 1. The composers will meet with Thomas three times a year for composing lessons; each student will have his or her composition premiered by the New Haven Symphony Contemporary Music Group as the final piece of the project. Thomas’s residency with the NHSO is made possible through Music Alive, a national program of the League of American Orchestras and Meet The Composer; the program helps orchestras support the presentation of new music and build support for new music within their institutions.
