In Sunday’s (9/12) Albuquerque Journal (New Mexico), David Steinberg writes, “The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra is trying something new this season—chamber music. The first of seven planned chamber concerts in the 2010-11 season is Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Robertson & Sons Violin Shop. ‘It’s a great opportunity for our musicians to play in a beautiful hall, in an intimate space,’ NMSO music director Guillermo Figueroa said. Figueroa said Ruth Silva-Hernandez, the NMSO’s president/CEO, came up with the idea for the series. … The highlight of the debut concert in the series is Franz Schubert’s Octet for Winds and Strings. ‘It’s lyrical. It’s the Schubertian lyricism that you’ll find in his songs and in much of his chamber music,’ said David Felberg, the NMSO’s associate concertmaster, who is performing in the piece. … The other musicians in the octet are violinists Carol Swift-Matton, cellist Joan Zucker, bassist Jean-Luc Matton, violist Kim Fredenburgh, clarinetist Lori Lovato, bassoonist Stefanie Przybylska and French horn player Peter Ulffers.”
