“The Boston area has long been home to some of the world’s most prestigious musicians, ranging from performers with the Boston Symphony Orchestra to those who attended and graduated from renowned schools such as the New England Conservatory,” writes Sara Castellanos in Tuesday’s (9/15) Boston Business Journal. “Now, musically inspired entrepreneurs are starting businesses in Boston with the mission of connecting their passions with technology to revolutionize the way we consume, listen to and interact with music. These businesses range from Sonation, a Boston-based developer of a lifelike orchestra mobile app, to Boston-based Sync, which gathers data on how music impacts human health. ‘Boston has unique strengths in three areas—tech, music, and education,’ … said Ann Chao, founder and CEO of Sonation.” Sonation’s mobile app Cadenza simulates for a solo performer the real-time experience of playing with a symphony orchestra. “Toju Ometoruwa, founder of Boston-based Pickasound, said there seems to be ‘growing pockets’ in Boston where music and technology are merging.… Pickasound offers software that enables users to sample and remix tracks from a diverse sample library, or upload their own music loops, to create solo projects and collaborate with others in the music community.”
