Dina Gilbert has joined the Walla Walla Symphony in Washington as music director and conductor. Gilbert is principal conductor of the Grands Ballets Canadiens, music director of the Kamloops Symphony in British Columbia, and has led orchestras across Canada, including the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic, and the Orchestre symphonique de Québec. From 2013 to 2016, she served as assistant conductor of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. Internationally, her engagements have taken her to France, the United States, Colombia, Spain, Austria, Germany, and Japan. As founder and artistic director of the Montreal-based chamber orchestra Ensemble Arkea, Gilbert premiered over thirty works from emerging Canadian composers between 2011 and 2017, and reached thousands of children across Canada with her interactive Conducting 101 workshops. Gilbert was featured in the recent documentary Femmes symphoniques, and earned her doctorate from the Université de Montréal. Awarded the Opus Prize of Découverte de l’année in 2017, Gilbert was cited as a creative force in Québec in 2018 by Urbania Magazine.
