Out with the old, in with the new? Not quite. As anyone in our field knows, American orchestras have a tall order balancing their roles as advocates for new music and preservers of the classics—at the same time. Three music journalists—two from The New York Times and one from NewMusicBox—weighed in on the state of contemporary music and its relationship with the major institutions. Now, we’re hoping to hear from you. Check out our roundup of the three pieces—with links to the original articles—and tell us what you think in the comments box.

Also this week highlighted by SymphonyNOW this week, Alex Ross blogs about an innovative Bach project organized by the League’s own James Holt, and Jimmy Fallon impersonates Beethoven on Saturday Night Live.

SymphonyNOW is the League’s new, online-only publication that provides timely stories about orchestras on a weekly basis. You’ll find SymphonyNOW on the right-hand side of the Hub homepage.
