Among the orchestras and ensembles with new recordings are the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra in Connecticut; the New York Philharmonic; the Cleveland Orchestra’s chamber group Ensemble HD; the Austin Symphony Orchestra in Texas; and the Kronos Quartet. The Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra has recorded Sweet Dreams, a collection of lullabies, on CDs which it donated to the Danbury Hospital’s Spratt Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The New York Philharmonic’s most recent album features three world premieres by Magnus Lindberg—EXPO, Al largo, and Piano Concerto No. 2—all composed during Lindberg’s three-year tenure as composer in residence. The Cleveland Orchestra’s Ensemble HD, led by Principal Flutist Joshua Smith, has released its first album, Live at the Happy Dog, featuring works performed live at Cleveland’s Happy Dog Bar. The Austin Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Peter Bay will record a CD of the world premiere of Edward Burlingame Hill’s Symphony No. 4 in January 2014. During its 40th year in 2013-14, the Kronos Quartet will release a six-CD boxed set with Nonesuch Records of their previous albums Pieces of Album, Nuevo, Floodplain, Caravan, and Night Prayers, plus a sixth disc of new works. To mark the centenary of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, Sony Classical has released three remastered historical sets of performances conducted by Igor Stravinsky, Leonard Bernstein, and others; Sony will also release a new Rite of Spring, with Daniele Gatti and the Orchestre National de France.
