Musicians of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.

In Wednesday’s (9/25) Toledo Blade, a staff-written article states, “Members of Local 15-286 of the American Federation of Musicians have ratified a five-year collective bargaining agreement with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, officials said. As part of the agreement, musicians will receive annual increases in minimum compensation totaling 39 percent over the course of the five-year life of the agreement, which runs through the 2028-29 season. It also includes an increase in matching contributions to the musicians’ 403(b) retirement plan…. The new agreement also includes additions to the core orchestra. Two new core string positions were added, and several previously part-time positions were converted to full-time positions. The agreement also updates and expands tenure guidelines, standardizing the length of the evaluation period and providing greater transparency through the review process. Both sides agreed to continuing community engagement and education efforts, with TSO musicians providing support for educational initiatives and community engagement activities…. The agreement also outlines personal and sick leave guidelines as well as the addition of principal relief services, increased paid parental leave, and greater flexibility overall for musicians while providing better data for management to plan and budget.”
