Wednesday (8/3) on the National Post online (Canada), Melissa Leong reports, “McGill University violin professor and former Montreal Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Jonathan Crow will make his debut as concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 22. Crow who is moving to Toronto with his wife and two children, will perform for as many as 14 concert weeks; he will be featured as a soloist in two programs. TSO music director Peter Oundjian spoke of the arrangement in June at a concert performance in Roy Thomson Hall; but the official announcement was made on Wednesday. ‘The concertmaster search committee and I were overwhelmingly impressed with Jonathan’s performance and talent,’ Oundjian said. The position of concertmaster has been vacant for three years. ‘There is an energy and vibrancy about the Toronto Symphony Orchestra that I want to be a part of,’ Crow said in a statement. ‘I’m delighted to be joining this amazing group of musicians and I look forward to beginning my role as concertmaster.’ ”
