Classical-music critic Lawrence A. Johnson has announced that in September he will launch New York Classical Review, a site devoted to covering classical music in the New York metropolitan area. Johnson’s other regionally based classical-review sites cover concerts and opera in Boston, Chicago, South Florida. In a press release, Johnson said the new site will review major local organizations such as the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, and Carnegie Hall, but also cover “the offbeat and the unusual, with an emphasis on contemporary music and rarely heard repertory.” In addition to reviews, the site will carry commentary and opinions from its readers. Organizations wishing to be covered should contact Johnson at ljohnson@theclassicalreview.com.
