The 20th annual MATA Festival of contemporary music will take place from April 10 to 14 at The Kitchen in Manhattan. The festival will open with Mexico’s Liminar ensemble performing world premieres by Annie Gosfield and Daniel Silliman, plus Sergey Khismatov’s D-Musik for soprano (broadcast from within a shower in the offices of the Kitchen), and works by Carlos Iturralds (Fata Morgana), Juro Kim Feliz (Pangkur), Joe Bates (A Noise So Loud), and Tania Rubio (Siete Colores de la Luna). An April 13 program, “MATA’s Greatest Hits,” will celebrate pieces selected by former MATA leaders including Du Yun (artistic director, 2015-2018), Yotam Haber (artistic director, 2011-2015), Missy Mazzoli (executive director, 2007-2010), and Lisa Bielawa (founder and director, 1998-2005). An additional festival event on April 21 at Tribeca’s Imagine Swimming will feature Nadia Botello’s Sono/Aqua, at which the audience will be invited to enter a “sonified” pool as part of the performance. Other composers to be featured during the festival include David T. Little, Jennifer Higdon, Jenna Lyle, Hugo Morales Murgía, Michael Winter, Kristin Boussard, Sky Macklay, Valentín Pelisch, Ken Ueno, Alessandro Perini, Bahaa el-Ansary, Steven Whiteley, Chris Perren, Jenny Hettne, Aaron Graham, and Erin Rogers.
