In Thursday’s (8/4) Dayton Daily News (Ohio), Terry Morris writes, “Many arts organizations in the Dayton region will receive increases in funding from the Ohio Arts Council, reversing a two-year trend of cuts. Groups in the Dayton region will receive 44 grants totaling more than $650,000 in grants, the OAC announced this week. … In contrast to arts agencies in 42 other states that had appropriations cut or kept the same, the OAC received a 30.5 percent increase in the 2012-13 biennium budget approved on July 1 by Gov. John Kasich. The local grants are among 379 grants totaling $5,920,294 statewide. Most are for general operating support. The largest ones to area groups included: $127,617 (compared to $97,329 last year) to the Victoria Theatre Association, $60,457 ($46,027) to the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and $59,060 ($46,827) to the Dayton Art Institute. … The OAC said $3,254,525 was awarded to 38 of the state’s major arts institutions—those with annual budgets of more than $1.5 million. More than $2.1 million went to groups with smaller budgets.”
