The deadline is April 30 for composers age 30 or younger to submit scores for the second annual PARMA Student Composer Competition. Submitted works must be previously unpublished, scored for one to four string instruments, and be ten minutes or less in duration. Composers submitting scores must be enrolled in a composition program or studying privately with a professional composer. The winner will have his or her piece performed during the 2013 PARMA Music Festival held from August 15 to 17 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, alongside performances by clarinetist Richard Stoltzman, the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra, and the PARMA Orchestra. The winner will be announced on June 28. PARMA is a New England-based record company featuring genres including classical, jazz, rock, and experimental music.
