Music from the Inside Out, a 2004 documentary by filmmaker Daniel Anker about the musicians of the Philadelphia Orchestra, has been digitally released this week by Cinedigm, a digital distribution company, and plans are underway to release it at iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, Xbox, Playstation, and YouTube. Cinedigm previously released a DVD of the documentary in 2007. The film, spanning five years and three continents, incorporates the orchestra’s musical performances with individual stories featuring an eclectic soundtrack of classical, jazz, bluegrass, salsa, and world music. The documentary, previously featured at festivals around the world, was nominated for the International Documentary Association’s Distinguished Feature Award and received a “Parent’s Choice” Silver Award. It inspired Music from the Inside Out: Music Literacy for Upper Elementary, Middle School, and High School, a curriculum on music education techniques, published by Alfred Music in 2007.
