Tuesday (12/18) on the Pittsburgh Tribune online, Mark Kanny reports, “The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has announced details of its Music for the Spirit Festival, which will run April 20 to 28 at various local venues. The festival will begin with ‘Singing City’—a concert featuring a 2,300-voice choir that will include a world premiere by Jonny Priano and conclude with the finale of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 (‘Resurrection’), conducted by Manfred Honeck on April 20 at the Petersen Events Center at the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland. Other highlights will include an organ recital by Paul Jacobs on April 21 at Heinz Chapel, Oakland; a concert, ‘Celebrating the Next Generation,’ featuring high school and university students performing under Honeck and four other conductors on April 23 at Heinz Hall, Downtown; and a multi-media chamber opera, ‘The Dybbuk: Between Two Worlds,’ presented by the Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival on April 25 and 28 at the New Hazlett Theater, North Side. The festival will include BNY Mellon Grand Classics concerts led by Honeck and featuring the world premiere of Christopher Theofanidis’ ‘The Gift’ and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (‘Choral’), April 26 to 28 at Heinz Hall.”
