An Associated Press report posted Wednesday (1/16) on the WHTM ABC News channel 27 website (Pittsburgh) states, “The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will give 12 concerts in Europe this summer. The orchestra says in a release Wednesday that the European Festivals Tour will run from Aug. 26 to Sept. 15. Music director Manfred Honeck will lead the tour, which begins at the Grafenegg Festival in Austria and ends at the Beethoven Festival in Bonn, Germany. Violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter will appear with the orchestra in Grafenegg, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Lucerne, while piano virtuoso Yuja Wang will be in Grafenegg, Bucharest, Paris, Dusseldorf and Bonn. Percussionist Martin Grubinger will be the guest soloist in Lucerne and Bonn. The tour will feature music by Richard Strauss, Dmitri Shostakovich, Witold Lutoslawski, John Corigliano, and other composers.”
