In Monday’s (9/26) Cincinnati Enquirer, Janelle Gelfand reports, “The plans for the renovation of Music Hall show the main auditorium reduced by up to 1,500 seats, the orchestra seated on a stage that projects nearly 39 feet into space now occupied by seats, and the main lobby as one long expanse without glass doors dividing it. Proposals for changes to Springer Auditorium, which now seats 3,417, were made public in a presentation by Duncan Hazard, architectural partner-in-charge, Monday night in Music Hall’s Ballroom. The Society for the Preservation of Music Hall hosted the event. About 200 people representing stakeholders in the hall, including tenants, arts patrons and preservationists—had a first glimpse of the plans for the auditorium that is home to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Opera and Cincinnati May Festival. The Cincinnati Ballet will call Music Hall its home when the renovation is complete. The renovation project is scheduled to start in May 2013, closing the hall for performances until its planned reopening in the fall of 2014. … Seating will be reduced to about 1,900 for concerts by the Cincinnati Symphony, Pops or May Festival, 2,200 seats for opera and ballet and about 2,300 for touring shows that do not need an orchestra pit.”
