Maine’s Portland Symphony Orchestra announced that its performing-arts “incubator” project to share space with Portland Ovations and other Portland arts groups is now in place at 50 Monument Square. The PSO and Portland Ovations moved into the space in August; the goal is for the orchestra and other Portland arts groups to share space as a cost-saving measure and also to work together, pool resources, and collaborate on concepts, projects, and back-office needs. In August the PSO and Portland Ovations (formerly PCA Great Performances/Portland Concert Association) signed a lease; other organizations moving to the space include the Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ, the Portland Choral Art Society, and the LARK Society for Chamber Music. The 50 Monument Square building is around the corner from Merrill Auditorium, where the orchestra performs; it is owned by Youth Alternatives Ingraham, a Portland social services agency. “Many of us often worked closely together before, but now everyone is together, sharing space and energy and ideas—and everyone benefits,” said Portland Ovations Executive Director Aimée Petrin.
