Monday’s (4/20) News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne, Indiana) reports, “The Fort Wayne Philharmonic will fill its 2009-2010 season with a mix of popular and new classical music, as well as Pops and Family series concerts featuring acts such as The Manhattan Transfer, Riders in the Sky, and the music of Disney movies. … Guest artists appearing for the first time with the Philharmonic will be Anthony McGill, a world-class clarinetist who performed with Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman during the Obama inauguration; Bella Hristova, a Laureate of the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis; and violinist Liana Gourdjia. … The Philharmonic will take part in the Indiana premiere of Joseph Schwantner’s ‘Chasing Light,’ which is part of Ford Made in America, a partnership program of the League of American Orchestras and Meet the Composer. The Fort Wayne chapter of Sigma Alpha Iaota has also partnered with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic to commission a new work by composer Amy Scurria titled ‘What the Soul Remembers’ to honor three wonderful women who each played significant roles in the musical life of Fort Wayne.
