The League of American Orchestras has opened registration for its 2023 National Conference, which takes place June 14-16 in Pittsburgh and is hosted by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Boasting 446 bridges, the city of Pittsburgh is the perfect location for the League Conference with its theme of “Bridges to the Future,” and the Conference will explore all the ways that orchestras are building bridges to embrace the opportunities of today—and tomorrow. The Conference will examine how orchestras are working to build a sustainable future that is both artistically creative and reflects their communities; explore the culture of innovation that can help revitalize the orchestra field; investigate effective business practices and the building of healthy cultures; and redefine the orchestral art form’s relevance, especially to the next generation. Live music-making will be a focus of the Conference, with performances that include a new commission by Stacy Garrop and a collaboration with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Experts from inside and outside the orchestra field will lead sessions covering topics that include equitable and inclusive orchestras, non-classical programming, trends in giving, budgeting, volunteers, orchestra demographics, commissioning, shared services, youth perspectives, and more.
