On March 5, Theodore Kuchar will lead the Reno Chamber Orchestra in the world premiere of The Falconer’s Waltz, honoring RCO double bassist and former Executive Director Scott Faulkner. The work’s composer is James Winn, the RCO’s principal pianist, who is also a professor of composition at University of Nevada, Reno. The Falconer’s Waltz was commissioned by the orchestra and friends of Faulkner, who has played bass in the orchestra for more than 20 years and served as executive director from 2001 to 2015. Also on the program will be Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 with soloist Andrius Zlabys, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, and Dreamtime Ancestors by Christopher Theofanidis, the latter co-commissioned by the RCO as part of the nationwide New Music for America project.
