“If you’re going to produce a symphony concert that’s all about the relationship between music and dance, as the Adrian Symphony Orchestra did Friday night, it makes perfect sense to [have] actual dancers onstage with the orchestra for one of the pieces,” writes Arlene Bachanov in Sunday’s (4/29) Daily Telegram (Adrian, Michigan). “I don’t recall it ever being done here. And besides the logical connection, it’s a nice way for the orchestra to team up with yet another type of community organization … So for the first piece on Friday’s concert, five young ladies from Dance With Heart [studio] took to the stage for the ASO’s performance of Bernstein’s Three Dance Episodes from On the Town [choreographed by] Anya Noveskey…. The ASO musicians had to do their jobs with all that motion going on literally right next to some of them…. And, as was the case throughout Friday’s concert, the orchestra sounded just fantastic…. Every section of the orchestra did very fine work.” Music Director Bruce Anthony Kiesling led the concert, which also included dance scores by Copland and Stravinsky.
