In Monday’s (9/16) KKCO 11 News (Grand Junction, Colorado), Robbie Patla reports, “The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra (GJSO) opened its 46th season with ‘Celestial Journey’ … The performance was meant as a celebration of music and space exploration. ‘One of the things we really like to do is make a big splash at the beginning of the season,’ said Charles Latshaw, music director … ‘This is the sort of concert to bring new people to the orchestra, to bring families to.’ After performing at the Avalon Theater for nearly 14 years, this opener also acted as a celebration of a new era of performance, with two new venues added … The new Asteria Theater and Grand Junction High School Auditorium will be the sites for a few of their upcoming performances…. Robyn Miley, marketing director of GJSO, said … ‘We’ve already had more subscribers this season than ever before …The excitement from the community is apparent.’ The musicians are also excited to be back. ‘To be able to promote and advance classical music in our area is quite something,’ said Cassandra Sundstorm, principal 2nd violin…. Nearly 15 more concerts are scheduled for the 46th season, which runs until May 2025.”
