
Robert Moody is the incoming music director of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra.
The Baltimore Chamber Orchestra (BCO) has named Robert Moody as music director, beginning a three-year contract in the 2024-25 season. He will be only the third music director in the orchestra’s 40-year history. Moody is currently in his eighteenth season as music director for Arizona Musicfest and his ninth season as music director of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. In 2022 he was named principal conductor for Lakeland Opera (FL). Prior positions have included music director of the Portland Symphony (ME) and the Winston-Salem Symphony (NC). Earlier in his career, he held conducting positions with the Phoenix Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, Santa Fe Opera, Brevard Music Center, Interschool Orchestras of New York City, and apprenticed at Landestheater Opera in Linz, Austria. Some of his 2024-25 season debuts include the Kansas City Symphony, Tulsa Opera with Renée Fleming, the Tampere Philharmonic in Finland, and Timisoara Philharmonic in Rumania. Moody has led orchestras and opera companies including the Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony, Dallas and Houston symphonies, Minnesota Orchestra, Washington National Opera, the Aachen and Baden Baden orchestras in Germany, Orquesta Filarmonica de Bogotá (Colombia), and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra (Austria). A South Carolina native, Moody holds degrees from Furman University and the Eastman School of Music.
