On May 10, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will premiere Jennifer Higdon’s Harp Concerto with soloist Yolanda Kondonassis, led by Music Director Ward Stare, at the Eastman Theatre in Rochester, New York. The four-movement concerto is the latest in a series of concertos by Hidgon that include the premiere earlier this year of her Low Brass Concerto, a co-commission among the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Her Violin Concerto received the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2010, and Higdon has also written concertos for oboe, percussion, piano, soprano saxophone, tuba, and viola, plus Concerto 4-3 for two violins and double bass. In September, the Rochester Philharmonic and Kondonassis will record the harp concerto for AZICA Records.
