The Rockford Symphony Orchestra in Illinois has received a grant of $1,500 for “Symphony 101,” a new adult outreach program. The grant, from the Donald V. and Britta A. Peterson Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, will benefit clients at social service agencies, including the Center for Sight and Hearing and the Janet Wattles Center, both in Rockford. Classes given at the agencies will introduce the symphony as a musical form and provide guided listening activities; participants also will discuss what happens at an orchestra concert and be given tickets to the RSO’s final 2008-09 concert, on April 24, featuring Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 (“Little Russian”).
