At its October 17 program of Copland, Bruch, and Tchaikovsky conducted by Andrew Grams at the Sacramento Community Center Theater, the Sacramento Philharmonic introduced Tweet Seats, encouraging live-tweeting from a special section of the theater during performances. The initiative will be in place during the 2015-16 season for Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera performances. “Expert Tweeters” were invited to complete an online survey and apply for free tickets, and for each concert during the season a limited number of tweeters will be invited to provide updates and commentary in real time before, during, and after the concert. The orchestra’s goal is “to feature authentic, unique local voices and their response to our season. No classical music experience is necessary to participate.” Said Alice Sauro, executive director of the Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera, “We want to … be able to reach as wide an audience as we can. Today’s world demands using every available tool to secure classical music as an integral part of our community. Social media is fast, interactive, and makes us accessible to the voices of our younger viewers.”
