In Thursday’s (6/16) Sacramento Bee (California), Edward Ortiz writes, “The Sacramento Philharmonic has tapped former executive director Jane Hill as interim director in the wake of Marc Feldman’s unexpected exit. The decision to hire Hill was made at a Philharmonic board meeting Tuesday night, said Sacramento Philharmonic board President David K. Nystrom. Hill, 71, comes on board July 5. ‘We have a one-year, tenure agreement with her,’ Nystrom said. Feldman, who had led the orchestra since 2007, resigned last week, said Nystrom. Neither Nystrom nor Feldman gave a reason for the sudden resignation. … Sacramento Philharmonic conductor Michael Morgan contends that the board had lost confidence in Feldman. … In choosing Hill, the board has picked someone intimately acquainted with the orchestra. Hill served as executive director of the orchestra between 2002 and 2007. … Nystrom said bringing Hill back ensures that the $1.5 million organization will achieve long-term stability, and fulfill the orchestra’s strategic goals of focusing on outreach and diverse programming. Those were among the strongest attributes of Feldman’s five-year tenure with the orchestra.”
