Tuesday (8/21) on the My San Antonio news website, Express-News reporter David Hendricks writes, “San Antonio Symphony musicians emailed a letter to each member of the symphony’s board of directors Friday, asking for a contract negotiation session. On Tuesday, three symphony musicians representing the 72-member orchestra said it has been a year since the two sides have had substantive talks on financial matters, including pay and length of work. ‘We can’t keep on indefinitely. We need to know what to expect when we go to work,’ said Craig Sorgi, orchestra violinist and chairman of the San Antonio Symphony Players Association negotiating committee. The current contract, which is an extension of the 2010-11 terms of the previous 2007-11 contract, expires Aug. 31. … ‘We’ll be negotiating shortly,’ said Jack Fishman, symphony president and CEO, said later Tuesday. ‘We need the financial information for this year because it affects what we can raise (in donations) next year. It’s important to work with accurate information.’ A San Antonio Symphony board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday. Fishman said an approved agenda has not been set. The symphony’s fiscal year also ends Aug. 31.”
