In Wednesday’s (10/3) San Antonio Express-News (Texas), David Hendricks writes, “A contract with its musicians that would take the San Antonio Symphony into a new home—the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, which is under construction—has been reached. The three-year contract was ratified by orchestra members late Monday and means the first scheduled rehearsal for the 2012-13 season will be held this morning. The performance season also will begin on time, with the first classical series concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings in the symphony’s current home, the Majestic Theatre. … Craig Sorgi, a symphony violinist who heads the musicians’ negotiating team, said Tuesday that a three-week dispute over back pay ‘was resolved at the table.’ The union had filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board, and that complaint now is being withdrawn, he said. Symphony President and CEO Jack Fishman said Tuesday the contract calls for 27 weeks of performances for the 2012-13 season, 28 weeks for 2013-14 and 29 weeks for 2014-15. The musicians will gain modest pay increases over the three years under the contract, Sorgi said. … The contract for the 72 musicians is the first that has been negotiated since 2007, when a four-year contract was signed. The contract expired in August 2011.”
