In last Tuesday’s (12/31) San Bernardino Sun (California), an unsigned report states, “The San Bernardino Youth Symphony Orchestra ended its inaugural season Dec. 15 with a performance in front of more than 400 people at the San Bernardino Valley College Auditorium, symphony officials said in a news release…. ‘The launch of the San Bernardino Symphony Youth Orchestra this fall and the presentation of their inaugural performance represent a resounding success that is a testament to the hard work of all of the students involved, and their families that have supported them,’ symphony conductor Lucy Lewis said … The symphony’s performance included ‘Conga del Fuego Nuevo’ by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez, ‘Busca La Alegría’ by Los Angeles-based composer María Eugenia León, ‘Of the Father’s Love Begotten’ featuring Concertmaster Xueyou Melody Ke, a version of ‘Sleigh Ride’ and Leroy Anderson’s ‘A Christmas Festival.’… The symphony’s spring semester is set to begin Jan. 12 with a winter workshop led by, among others, members of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra. The spring concert is scheduled for May 18.” The youth orchestra is an initiative of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra.
