The San Francisco Symphony’s fall 2008 program honoring Leonard Bernstein on PBS’s Great Performances is one of the nominees for an Emmy Award in the “Outstanding Special Class Programs” category, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced. The program—Carnegie Hall Opening Night 2008: A Celebration of Leonard Bernstein (Great Performances)—was produced by Carnegie Hall and Thirteen/WNET New York, in association with the San Francisco Symphony. Joining the orchestra on that October 29 program were singers Christine Ebersole, Thomas Hampson, and Dawn Upshaw; cellist Yo-Yo Ma; and vocal students from The Juilliard School. Other arts programs receiving Emmy nominations were two American Masters’ programs: Jerome Robbins: Something To Dance About on PBS (Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming); and Glass: A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts (Outstanding Sound Editing for Nonfiction Programming, Single Or Multi-Camera). The Emmy Awards ceremonies are scheduled to take place on September 20.
