The Santa Rosa Symphony in California has received a $444,453 gift from the Evert B. Person Charitable Unitrust, which will be used to endow the orchestra’s principal cello chair in perpetuity. That chair will be held by Adelle-Akiko Kearns, the orchestra’s newly named principal cellist. Evert Person, who died in March 2011, served as president of the orchestra’s board from 1966 to 1968; with his wife, Norma, he co-chaired the orchestra’s 2005 planned-giving campaign and donated $3 million to the Green Music Center on the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park, California. The Green Music Center is scheduled to open in fall 2012 with the Santa Rosa Symphony as one of the resident companies.
