Georgia’s Savannah Philharmonic has announced details of its 2009-10 season, the first full season for the orchestra since it launched in January 2009. Seven programs will take place during the season at venues throughout Savannah. On September 11 the orchestra, led by Artistic Director Peter Shannon, will perform an American-themed program at the Lucas Theatre; repertoire will include Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and Sousa marches. Three other classics concerts during the season will feature Verdi’s Requiem, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. The Verdi and Beethoven concerts will also feature the Savannah Philharmonic Chorus, a community-based auditioned ensemble that works with the orchestra. Also planned are a Christmas carol singalong at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and a St. Patrick’s Day pops concert at Trustees Theater.
