After a 9-day cyberattack that shut down the network systems of the Metropolitan Opera, including the box office and website, the Met states that it “is now able to process ticket orders through our website and in person at our box office. Based upon our ongoing investigations into the recent cyberattack, we would like to reassure our customers that ticketing customer data, including credit card information used when purchasing tickets, has not been stolen.” Cybersecurity experts believe that the shutdown was a ransomware attack. The Met did not miss any performances during the tech shutdown, although it indicated even the largest performing arts groups are vulnerable to digital attacks.
