The American Academy of Arts and Letters has announced seventeen recipients of this year’s awards in music, which total $235,000 and will be presented at the Academy’s annual ceremony in May in New York City. The composers are Timo Andres, Jeremy Gill, Ted Hearne, David Hertzberg, Jack Hughes, Amy Beth Kirsten, Aaron Israel Levin, Huijuan Ling, Alexandre Lunsqui, Nate May, David Clay Mettens, Jason Mulligan, Andreia Pinto Correia, James Primosch, Matthew Ricketts, Adam Schoenberg, and Pamela Z. The winners were selected by a committee of Academy members: Melinda Wagner (chairperson), Robert Beaser, Martin Bresnick, Chen Yi, George Lewis, David Rakowski, and Augusta Read Thomas. Candidates for music awards are nominated by the 250 members of the Academy. The American Academy of Arts and Letters, founded in 1898, seeks to foster and sustain interest in literature, music, and the fine arts by administering over 70 awards and prizes, exhibiting art and manuscripts, funding performances of new works of musical theater, and purchasing artwork for donation to museums nationwide.
