The Sistema Fellows Program, based at New England Conservatory in Boston, is accepting applications for its 2013-14 postgraduate training program for musicians and music educators interested in developing El Sistema-inspired programs in the U.S. and abroad. The deadline for applications is February 8. During the two-semester, tuition-free program, ten selected Fellows learn about the philosophy and musical methodology of El Sistema, the Venezuelan social-action program with music performance as its centerpiece. The program, founded in 2008 as the Abreu Fellows Program, includes a monthlong residency in Venezuela during the spring semester. Fellows are required to spend the subsequent year working to develop El Sistema-inspired initiatives. For more information on the program and to apply, visit http://necmusic.edu/sistema-fellowship.
