The Solti Foundation has announced five recipients of its 2013 Solti Fellow and Career Assistance Awards for emerging conductors. The Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award of $25,000 (also known as the Solti Fellow) has been awarded to James Feddeck, in his fourth year as assistant conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra and music director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra. Named as recipients of Solti U.S. Career Assistance Awards are Vladimir Kulenovic, Associate Conductor of Utah Symphony | Utah Opera and a participant in the League of American Orchestras’ 2013 National Conductor Preview; Ankush Kumar Bahl, assistant conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra, who took part in master classes at the League of American Orchestras’ National Conference in 2012; Roger Kalia, assistant conductor of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra beginning in 2013-14, and entering his second season as music director of the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra of Los Angeles; and Christopher James Lees, recipient of a Gustavo Dudamel Conducting Fellowship with the Los Angeles Philharmonic this season and a participant in the League of American Orchestras’ 2011 National Conductor Preview. “The Foundation takes great pride in recognizing and providing assistance in the development of these talented young conductors as they continue to hone their art. We look forward to following their careers,” said Solti Foundation U.S. Board Chair Penny Van Horn, in announcing the awards.
