The Southwest Florida Symphony and the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in Fort Myers will hold a Hurricane Irma Relief Fund Benefit Concert on Thursday, October 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Davis Art Center. The performance is free, and monetary donations will be accepted and given to the United Way of Lee County’s Hurricane Relief Fund. The Southwest Florida Symphony and the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center and their staffs report that they escaped Hurricane Irma largely unscathed; the symphony office sustained no damage but endured a six-day power outage. Aware that many of their community members were far less fortunate, Amy Ginsburg, Southwest Florida Symphony’s executive director, and Jim Griffith, executive director of the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, collaborated to present this benefit performance. All involved are donating their services, including the ten participating Southwest Florida Symphony musicians and Music Director Nir Kabaretti. “This community experienced a pretty big collective scare,” said Amy Ginsburg. “We hope that the music people experience, and the relief it brings in a multitude of ways, brings some comfort after the storm.” Find more information at www.swflso.org.
