In Wednesday’s (3/18) Inlander (Spokane, Washington), Madison Pearson writes, “Some of the most iconic moments in cinema are punctuated by the work of two legends of film scoring. Darth Vader’s first appearance. A pirate ship approaching the shore. The circling of a man-eating shark. A father calling out to his daughter across time and space. At the helm of these scenes were Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean, Interstellar) and John Williams (Star Wars, Jaws); now, the Spokane Symphony is presenting a special program featuring some of the best from each composer’s repertoire. Zimmer’s epic soundscapes and Williams’ timeless melodies are being showcased March 20-21 … in a concert titled ‘Hans Zimmer vs. John Williams.’ First French horn player Clinton Webb says performances of more contemporary music are a good contrast to the symphony’s bread and butter, their Masterworks series…. ‘There are different groups of people in town that you want to reach,’ Webb says. ‘And so I think we’re getting more creative about ways to reach audiences that maybe aren’t going to come to a Brahms symphony, but are open to the idea of a symphony concert….  Symphony orchestras are a really powerful community resource for continuing to keep us from becoming so atomized.’ ”
