Spring for Music, the annual festival of concerts by North American symphony and chamber orchestras at Carnegie Hall, is inviting the public to vote and comment on potential programs that have been proposed by orchestras for the 2014 festival. Orchestras have anonymously submitted program proposals and written notes explaining their choices; 3,000 votes have already been logged. Among the themes submitted for 2014 are programs exploring Nadia Boulanger’s American legacy, new music by Canadian composers, female composers from Amy Beach to Margaret Brouwer, and New England composers from George Chadwick and Charles Ives to Christopher Theofanidis. The inaugural Spring for Music festival featuring seven orchestras took place in May 2011; the 2012 festival from May 7 to 12 will feature the Houston, Edmonton, New Jersey, Alabama, Milwaukee, and Nashville symphonies. To weigh in on the 2014 proposed programs, visit the Spring for Music website. The 2014 programs will be announced on February 1, 2012.
