The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.

“The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) continues its much-admired artist-led programming next season, its 65th, in a variety of concert formats and venues,” writes Susan Elliott in Wednesday’s (4/12) Musical America (subscription required). “Guided mostly by its rotating cast of artistic partners—currently British Baroque specialists Jonathan Cohen and Richard Egarr, American composer and musical commentator Rob Kapilow, South African cellist Abel Selaocoe, and German violist Tabea Zimmermann—SPCO generally offers about 100 concerts annually throughout the Twin Cities, as well as a generous amount of free live and pre-recorded streams…. Also continuing is the SPCO Sandbox composer residency program, in which a composer collaborates with SPCO musicians to develop and experiment with new work. Clarice Assad holds the position next season, workshopping her piece for voice and orchestra next fall in advance of its January 2024 premiere. Valerie Coleman and Gabriela Lena Frank develop new … works for 2024-25 season…. A number of concerts are to be led and curated by SPCO members, or ‘Creative Leads.’  Next season’s are violinists Daria Adams, Steven Copes, Maureen Nelson and Nina Tso-Ning Fan; principal bass Zachary Cohen; principal bassoon Andrew Brady; flutist Alicia McQuerrey; and principal horn James Ferree.”
