The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Jamie Reeves.

In Monday’s (9/23) WSFA (Montgomery, Alabama), Simon Schuessler writes, “The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra is back. Their upcoming season at Troy University’s Davis Theatre consists of four classical concerts that run through April, as well as a holiday performance near Christmas time. Their first performance of the season is set for Monday, Sept. 23. It will feature renditions of an operetta composed by Johann Strauss II, and multiple pieces from … Richard Strauss. ‘In a lot of ways his pieces represent the most you can do with an orchestra in the classical genre. Loud, fast, exciting pieces,’ said the Orchestra’s conductor Jamie Reeves. In addition to playing music with so much history behind it, you can also find history in some of the instruments that will be playing that music, like the violin of soloist Geneva Lewis that dates back to the mid-1700s. ‘What’s special about this violin is the sound,’ she explained. ‘It has a really rich, warm sound that I feel offers a lot of possibilities for me.’ Lewis … will be using that violin to play the rarely performed Strauss Violin Concerto.” The item lists the coming season’s concerts by the Montgomery Symphony.
