At a July 23 program at the Strings Music Festival in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Richard Kaufman conducted an ensemble of principal brass players from symphony orchestras from around the U.S. Brass musicians from the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, and San Francisco Symphony performed “A Tribute to John Williams Movie and Olympics Music,” featuring new brass-and-percussion arrangements by Timothy Higgins, principal trombone of the San Francisco Symphony. Michael Sachs, principal trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra and music director of Strings Music Festival, worked with John Williams and his publisher to produce the concert, which included music from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lincoln, Harry Potter, War Horse, and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
