Hall openings. Music director debuts. Anniversary galas. Many things create a stir this time of year, but not the least among them is the unveiling of new orchestral works. What’s in store this season? Symphony surveyed the League’s member orchestras of all shapes and sizes about their world, U.S., and Canadian premieres for 2011-12. More than 200 premieres were reported this year, which, in the face of a challenging economy, speaks volumes about creative vitality across the continent. You’ll find two versions of the list of 2011-12 premieres—organized by orchestra and by composer name—under the Symphony heading at americanorchestras.org, along with lists from the nine previous seasons. If you missed submitting or didn’t have premieres this year but plan to next year, be sure to keep an eye out for our call for submissions, in spring 2012. And if you have concerns about the current list, please contact Assistant Editor Ian VanderMeulen at ivandermeulen@americanorchestras.org.
