On opening night of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s 2019-20 season, the orchestra will host its third annual naturalization ceremony for Connecticut residents in the Belding Theater at The Bushnell in Hartford. The October 12 ceremony will take place just prior to the start of the concert, led by Music Director Carolyn Kuan. At the beginning of its 2017-18 season, the Hartford Symphony hosted a pre-concert ceremony at which Kuan and ten others were sworn in as American citizens. At this year’s ceremony, ten Connecticut residents will take the oath to become U.S. citizens with Sarah A. L. Merriam, United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Connecticut, presiding. Kuan will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and Hall High School senior Amelia Tripp will sing the national anthem. “It is with great pride that the HSO hosts its third annual naturalization ceremony,” said HSO Executive Director Steve Collins. “Inclusion, equality and integrity are some of our fundamental values and we strive to bring them to life in all we do. Welcoming 10 new citizens to the United States is a wonderful privilege and ideal opportunity to celebrate the power of music to bring us together and celebrate the joy of humanity.”
