In Monday’s (1/12) Texarkana Gazette (Texas), Karl Richter writes, “The Texarkana Symphony Orchestra’s concert Thursday will feature the group’s principal trumpeter, Jeremy McBain, and a work by composer Steven Bryant titled ‘Whirlwind.’ After the concert opens with ‘Whirlwind,’ McBain will take the spotlight performing Alexander Arutiunian’s Trumpet Concerto, and the orchestra will finish with a pair of pieces by Antonín Dvořák, Slavonic Dances numbers one through four and ‘Scherzo Capriccioso.’ Bryant’s website describes ‘Whirlwind’ as ‘a brief, caffeinated work for winds and percussion … unfurling into a bombastic climax, then abruptly dissipating into thin air.’… McBain is a trumpet professor at the University of Texas at Tyler, where he teaches applied trumpet, brass chamber music, brass methods and arranging … He previously taught at Eastern Illinois University, Millikin University and Saint Mary’s College. An active performer, McBain is principal trumpet of the Texarkana Symphony and a member of the Rose City Brass Quintet and Jazz Orchestra. He has also played with numerous ensembles, including the East Texas Symphony and the Bach Society of Houston, and has performed with artists like Doc Severinsen and Michael Brecker.”
