Musicians of the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra, based in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

In Sunday’s (10/14) WI Proud (Eau Claire, Wisconsin), Alani Claudio reports, “The Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra (CVSO) celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Pablo Center on Saturday. It’s been 50 years in the making. Music Director of the CVSO, Nobuyoshi Yasuda, says, ‘Live performance is not about listening to a recording, right? So, that’s the excitement, the spontaneity of performing music, right now, right here.’ The CVSO’s October concert featured a viola concerto, written by a UW Eau Claire composer. Executive Director of the CVSO, Anna Rybicki, says, ‘The composer Chiayu Hsu did a lot of research about the long history of this area. So, the first movement is about the history that’s long past. In the second movement, it’s about the industrial past of Eau Claire, so you actually hear some sounds like machines, and then the third movement has a lot of variety and it’s about the place of the Chippewa Valley in the greater world and in the future.’ ”
