This fall, Musical America, the publisher of Musical America International Directory of the Performing Arts and the news site, named Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov Artist of the Year for 2019. During a December ceremony at Carnegie Hall, Trifonov was honored along with his fellow winners, who included Carlos Miguel Prieto, music director of the Louisiana Philharmonic, Orquesta Sinfónica National de México, and Orchestra of the Americas. Also receiving 2019 Musical America awards were Julia Wolfe, Composer of the Year; Anthony Roth Costanzo, Vocalist of the Year; and the JACK Quartet, Ensemble of the Year. Leonard Bernstein was the first Musical America Musician of the Year, in 1960.
